July 6th 2005 - email from Anne: Dear Tom, Thanks for including me as a cousin in your family. It feels right. I read your up-dated web-site and I have to say that when I downloaded the e-link you ascribed to me the document came up blank. Please check things just be sure the problem is mine and not yours. About James Teeple, the cooper. James was blind and he was often "without occupation." He was on his way to join his regiment during the Civil War and suddenly he was stricken blind. No further medical info. The Port Huron newspaper frequently listed him among those who received government financial support. James was Frederick's nephew and therefore a cousin to your Frederick Oliver. He had an acre of land severed off Frederick's land and he lived there for life. Here's a little tidbit about Eliza Hastings Teeple: # - - - among the earliest settlers in Haynes, and had spent her entire life here. Besides the husband, three sons, Wallace and Earl of Haynes, and Wilson of the A. E. F. in France, and two daughters, Mrs. Milo Johnson and Mrs. J. Yuill of Duluth, survive her. The funeral services were held Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church in Haynes, Rev. Royce officiating, and the remains were interred in the Mt. Joy Cemetery." (ref:AlconaCountyH---). According to the 9/5/1918 Alcona County Review: "MRS. FRED 0. TEEPLE Mrs. Fred 0. Teeple died Sunday at I :00 p.m. at her home in Haynes, from illness of long standing.
